Windsurfing: Bradfield Wind Direction: SW Wind Stength: 8kts-12kts Surf / Sea State: flat/swell Air Temperature: warm Sea Temperature: warm Weather: Sunny Max Speed: 19.11 (knots - unless stated otherwise) Distance Covered: 15.3nm (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise)
First time out in ages on foil, delayed by nursing ankle twisting after
falling on a gravel trail in Norfolk, whilst clipped to bike. Colsey Nick
James "team" Patrik were out and Lord James turned up later after spotted
me flying. Wind was light but gusted up nicely for an hour around high
tide.
All rigged big kit and after I purchased Starboard race kit, after giving
up on the poor quality of Slingshot fuse connections. I used the race fuse
115+ with a 900 wing previously but found it very difficult to take off.
Quite a lot of speed was needed or vigorous pumping, which am not into.
This time I rigged the freeride wing 1100 + 95+ fuse with a 330 rear wing
set at +1 degree. When the gusts came at say 12kts this is the perfect
setup am used to from the freeride Slingshot. It sails very similar the
slightly shorter fuse, but what was a big difference was the 330 stab set
at 1 degree - it was very stable in a straight line, none of this yo yoing
of the 76 Slingshot. The fuse use 5 bolts to secure to the mast, so no
worries it might separate like Slingshot.
Great day loads of gusts runs and ankle just swolled a little as only had
one fall trying to gybe. The pros were flying all day and Levington James
looked very fast on his new Patrik with his 9.3 race sail.
I hit 19.11kts in the light wind without even attempting going downwind so
the Starboard kit is quick. More wind Sunday so plan to setup same again
just to see which set up I prefer, the full on race set up 900 FR wing
/115+ fuse/255 stab. With the rear stab spacers, the kit has so many
permutations I dont really sail enough to try them all. Its very tunable.
DC says its a constant fine tuning depending on conditions for an optimum
sail, so guess thats very true.
